Our 5 Favorite Shopping Destinations in Asheville, NC

If you’ve spent any time in downtown Asheville, you are probably aware that we have some of the finest shopping in the region. Whether you’re looking for something in particular, or just doing some browsing, downtown Asheville and the surrounding areas have you covered. Downtown Asheville is perfect for a leisurely stroll through our many fine art galleries, clothing boutiques, and pretty much anything else your heart desires.

Grove Arcade
1 Page Ave
Asheville, NC 28801

Asheville’s Grove Arcade is home to some of Asheville’s finest restaurants and boutiques. Originally opened in 1921, it was shuttered to the public during WWII and was renovated/reopened in 2002 as a downtown retail destination. Currently, the Grove Arcade is home to approx 20 locally owned small boutiques, a handful of restaurants, and an outdoor craft market. We recommend checking out the Battery Park Book exchange where you can grab a glass of wine and a cozy chair and get lost in a great selection of books. For dining options, Carmels Kitchen and Modesto Restaurant do not disappoint. Don’t leave downtown Asheville without checking out one of its oldest and most well known attractions.

Kress Emporium
19 Patton Ave
Asheville, NC 28801

A block or so from Pritchard Park and the Vance Memorial, the Kress Emporium is located in the ground floor of the Kress Building, which was constructed in 1921, and is one of Ashevilles’s architectural landmarks. The Kress Emporium is a favorite for locals and tourists alike, with their finely curated selection of local and regional artisans. Its easy to find all kinds of treasures at Kress, whether you’re looking for paintings, ceramics, textiles, or other handmade local goods.

Woolworth Walk
25 Haywood St.
Asheville, NC 28801

Asheville’s Woolworth Walk is a unique bird. This locally owned gem offers two floors of “booths” where small to medium sized local artists can showcase their wares. Strolling through the large gallery, its fun and easy to get lost in a sea of amazing artwork. In addition to all sorts of art and crafts, the Woolworth Walk features a fully functional soda fountain, just as it did in 1938 when F.W. Woolworth originally opened.

Biltmore Village
10 Brook St.
Asheville, NC 28803

Just outside the gates of one of Asheville’s largest tourist attractions, The Biltmore Estate,  lies Biltmore Village, home to some of Asheville’s finest shopping and eating establishments. In addition to the newly constructed building that houses upscale chain retail like Williams Sonoma, Chico’s, and Talbots, and J. Crew, Biltmore Village also has some lovely locally owned and operated art galleries, clothing stores and more. Amongst our favorite businesses in Biltmore Village are The Corner Kitchen, Southern Highland Craft Guild, and Casablanca Cigar Bar. Smack dab in the center of it all is the Grand Bohemian Hotel, provides upscale lodging for visitors and excellent dining in their Red Stag Grille.

Asheville Outlets
800 Brevard Rd.
Asheville, NC 28801

What list of shopping destinations would be complete without an outlet mall? Well, Asheville’s probably, given the plethora of amazing retail in our town. Asheville as a downtown community may be strongly in favor of locally owned small businesses, but even us locals need to find affordable quality clothing and discounted home furnishings. Since the Asheville outlets opened to the public a couple years ago, it has been slowly growing and adding desirable national retailers like West Elm, Restoration Hardware, Coach, Banana Republic, and Field and Stream. Look for cool events on the weekends like their “Flea for all” craft fair, and Kid’s days with face painting, magic, and live music. They even have charging stations for electric vehicles. Bring the Tesla!
