The City Of Asheville’s Addition Of Fluoride To Its Drinking Water Is Illegal And Unethical Forced Medical Treatment

Leaking Faucet

Fluoride is a prescription drug and a known neurotoxin that should not be added to our drinking water. For years, Asheville has added fluoride to our drinking water based on the idea that it helps prevent cavities. However, scientific studies in the last 20 years prove that fluoride not only fails to prevent cavities, but causes permanent damage to other parts of our bodies, including our brains. The continued addition of a prescription drug and a known neurotoxin is an illegal, unethical unsafe practice that violates the most basic tenants of medical practice against forced medical treatment.

Why Is Fluoride A Forced Medical Treatment?

Fluoride is defined by the US Food and Drug Administration as a drug because it is intended to help cure a disease (dental cavities). The FDA states that “Fluoride, when used in the diagnosis, cure, mitigation, treatment, or prevention of disease in man or animal, is a drug that is subject to Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulation.”

Asheville Fluoride AttorneyThe United States Supreme Court has repeatedly ruled that we all have a right to refuse unwanted medical treatment. The Court has also upheld the requirement of informed consent for any medical treatment of medication.

The City of Asheville is adding a prescription drug to our drinking water without the supervision of a licensed medical practitioner, without the informed consent of any of its recipients, without concern for the age or medical condition of any of its recipients, and despite fluoride being a known neurotoxin.

Is Fluoride a Neurotoxin?

Fluoride is a neurotoxin that lowers IQ in children, according to 49 recent studies. Researchers with Harvard University, the National Research Council, and the Environmental Protection Agency all agree that studies conclude that children who ingest fluoride will likely have a lower IQ. The National Research Council in 2006 stated that “It is apparent that fluorides have the ability to interfere with the functions of the brain.” The Environmental Protection Agency named fluoride as one of 100 chemicals for which there is “substantial evidence of developmental neurotoxicity.” Why are we putting this in our drinking water? Even if fluoride helps fight cavities (it doesn’t), its not worth the risk as a neurotoxin.

Filtering Fluoride From Drinking Water

Many residents of Asheville use home filtration systems to remove impurities from their tap water, including fluoride. However, a large number of these consumer systems are known to inadequately filter fluoride. This can give a false sense of security to those wishing to provide their family with clean, fluoride-free drinking water. To our knowledge, the filtration method that most effectively removes fluoride is ‘Reverse Osmosis’. The safest way to be sure of what is in your/your family’s drinking water is to send a sample of your tap water to a trusted laboratory for chemical analysis.

Other health problems?

Researchers have linked fluoride ingestion to many other ailments, including:

  • Arthritis
  • Dental Fluorosis
  • Osteosarcoma (bone cancer)
  • Impaired kidney function
  • Infertility
  • Hypothyroidism
